We just got back from our trip to Paris, Reims, Bordeaux, Lyon, Lausanne & Geneva and as always, I like to send the report of the trip. Just as in our past trips, everything flowed perfectly.
Our hotel in Paris, the Edouard 7, was in an excellent location with a nice room and great service.
Our next hotel in Reims, the Domaine de Barive, was in a beautiful, remote location. It was great to be able to escape to and relax in the middle of nowhere. We were given the best room in the hotel and it was amazing. The room had views overlooking the front entrance and gardens. The hotel also had a great restaurant that we frequented. We were also within driving distance to the Champagne houses in Reims & Epernay. Due to our Cuban ingenuity, we were able to get into see both Champagne tastings, which was a great part of our trip!
After Reims, we headed back to Paris and then on to Bordeaux, were we stayed at Le Grande Maison. This hotel was over-the-top fabulous! It had a mix of old world charm and elegance, along with exceptional service. We got lucky at this hotel again and were given an amazing room. The hotel also helped us in getting a tour of a small boutique winery in Saint Emilion, called “Chateau Dominique”. The best part of it all was the hotel’s restaurant. We made reservations at the high-end “degustation” restaurant on our first night there, and after four hours and eight courses with three tastings per course, we were beyond satisfied. I would even venture to say it might have been one of the most amazing dinners I have ever had.
It was then off to Lyon, where we stayed at the Cour de Loges in the older part of the city. We were upgraded to a fabulous corner room that looked out over the medieval part of the city, which was beautiful. The hotel itself was very interesting, with cavernous, dimly lit stairs and hallways. It made you feel that any moment Dartagnan and the Musketeers would come out of from behind the heavy, thick wool curtains. With Lyon, being the gastronomical capital of France, we ate fabulously. We went from a local hangout owned by an 80-year-old woman, to a super restaurant that was owned by a famous chef.
We also went to Lausanne, where we stayed at the Lausanne Palace. It was a beautiful hotel in the middle of the city.
Our stay in Geneva was good too, where we stayed at the Hotel de la Paix, but our stay there was too short
Well, there you have it, I have to thank you guys again for a wonderful trip, and putting together a superb choice of hotels, this is probably one the trips I have most enjoyed.
Saludos y un abrazo,
